The transtop has already been converted to a manual roof by the previous owner. As you've seen the black window control box is behind the dash, so if I was to find a black box from a manual roof would this allow me to remove the roof ECU?

Its looking more and more like I will be mostly dragging this, occasional trips to knockhill and the odd sunday drive. I was undecided about removing the heaters for a while due to losing windscreen demister but i'll only be using the car in the fine weather so I should be ok...plus the heater matrix weighs loads, wish I'd weighed everything before I skipped it :( plus a bit of mistX on the windscreen should do the job nicely

quick update

just been tidying up wiring, following wiring diagrams...pretty mind numbing stuff
Image
Image

Found the ECU wiring in a bit of a mess, there was a a manual for a VAFC with the documents that came with the car so im guessing thats why this is in such a state
Image

Made a start at the sound deadening...

If your wanting it to be a serious track car especially with that power you want to look at a cage aswell mate. I had a cusco full cage and to be honest it wasn't up to the job. Sols aren't the best track cars due to the flex but with a decent cage it could make a massive difference bud :)
The Sol has passed on but its 370bhp heart is soon to live on in a MK2 CRX track car :-)

Felt like Id neglected the Sol for a couple of weeks so decided to set about carefully butchering the rear bumper...after some strange measuring methods it turned out very well

Love reading about all these projects. Only have a limited knowledge myself but love doing up my sol. Ok with body work and changing things. But going so deep into striping the car like u have I would be lost. Good work. Be great to see the end results.

Okay so if I'm perfectly honest I forgot all about this 'Project' thread I started  Anyway that just means that I have a whole lot of updating to do! 8)

Firstly I finished up stripping out all the sound deadening and painted the interior.

Image
Image

Purchased and installed an NRG harness bar and Cobra bucket seats.

Image
Image

Bought and fitted a boost gauge, oil pressure gauge, oil temp gauge and water temp gauge.

Image
Image
Image

Hooked up a couple of buttons for the rear fog light and horn.

Image

Re installed the dash

Image

After re-installing the dash I tested the gauges and found that the oil temp gauge doesn't light up and the oil pressure and water temperature don't read at all. Serves me right for buying cheap gauges. These will be replaced with a decent set of gauges

Removed the B16 for rebuilding

Image

I decided against running the steering rack with fluid and looped lines so this was stripped, seals removed and is now being run just greased.

Image

With everything removed from the chassis I set about the long job of cleaning and painting.
Image
Image
Image
Image

Painted up the fuel tank and installed a Walbro 255 fuel pump.

Image

Cleaned up the engine bay, tucked the wires down the wings, re-installed the subframe, steering rack, fuel lines, installed a 1'' brake master cylinder and brake lines.

Image
Image
Image

So I disassembled the B16 and started replacing seals etc. meanwhile i was looking for a S9b gearbox with LSD and came across a complete B18c4 and S9b box with 90k miles for £250 up in the highlands, it was a fair bit of travelling to collect it but should be worth it in the end.
So plans changed and the engine was rebuilt as follows:

B18c4 bottom end
B16 head
New stem seals
Dual Valve Springs (Intake and Exhaust)
B18c4 cams
Adjustable Cam Gears
PCV and crank breather box removed, crank case plugged with freeze plug
ARP headstuds
New OEM headgasket
All rubber seals replaced with new OEM
New water pump and timing belt
Oil sandwich plate
Thermal intake and throttle gasket
B16a2 throttle (minus fast idle thermo valve)
NGK BKR7E spark plugs
560cc evo5 injectors with resister box
Avid racing 62A engine mounts
S9b box with LSD
6 puck Yonaka clutch
ITR flywheel

My rocker cover and sump are still away having baffles and AN10 fittings for breathers and drains.

Started fitting the turbo kit I've pieced together:
I picked up the manifold and turbo for cheap, I'm not expecting them to last forever but they will work as a start to get it mapped and on the road.

XS power Manifold
XS power T3/T04E 57 trim turbo
Tial 38mm wastegate with 14PSI spring
Oil feed line with 0.065'' restrictor
Racetech 3bar Map Sensor
Toyosports Intercooler
Forge Dumpvalve

Image
Image

Parts i've bought and am yet to fit include:

ASR rear brace
ITR front and rear ARBs
Energy Suspension bushes for the front suspension
GMAX 35mm Springs and Gas Shocks
2.5'' stainless exhaust system, decat, downpipe
Spoon N1 backbox

Pics of all this will be uploaded when fitted.
Loads more to come.
Hopefully have this on the road in the spring 8)

It is a lot handier having the double garage, small complaint though being that it has two garage doors and a support beam down the middle so i can't have the car in the middle of the garage without some 333 point maneuver :(

Going to try and keep this thing better update with some better quality pictures. Not home from offshore til into the new year...plenty time for some online car parts shopping 8) 8) 8)

Time for an update!!!! :D :D :D :D :D

Been busy since I got back from a 2 month trip down in Africa so I suppose I better post some progress pics.

Rear suspension is all bolted up.
ASR Brace, Skunk2 LCAs, GMAX gas shocks and 35mm springs, D2 rear toe adjusters, eBay rear camber adjusters, 22mm ITR ARB, polyurethane ARB bushes, rebuilt calipers with new seals and pistons, Delphi rear discs, Green Stuff pads (not fitted in this pictures)
Image
Image

Front Suspension is all bolted up too.
Buddy Club front camber adjusters, GMAX gas shocks with 35mm springs, prothane poly bushes, new ball joints, rebuilt driveshafts with new boots, 24mm ITR ARB, polyurethane ARB bushes, new drop links.
Image
Image

Intercooler piping is all finished up. Still waiting on my rocker cover coming back with breather ports welded on.
Image

Refitted my front wings (did a big of creative sticker bombing to cover a horrible rusty wing), bonnet and cut some holes for the radiatior in the bumper.#
Image
Image
Image

I am fully aware that the bonnet and bumper are not the same blue are the rest of the car, I bought it like this, can only assume it had a little accident earlier in its lifetime. Some day in the future i will purchase new front wings, a carbon bonnet and have the whole car resprayed the same blue.

Besides waiting on my rocker cover, my 16'' Rota GT3s are in getting powder coated a dark grey colour.
I have rebuilt 282 Prelude calipers waiting to go on just need to buy discs, pads and braided hoses.

Getting there slowly.
Looking good for getting her on the road this year......just need to fight the urge to spend money on the new daily drive....

Image

Offshore again now but should be more updates once i'm home end of the month
