Tbh, I don't think I've looked at the main page since I signed up.
The main thing I miss from the forum, is the banter we used to have. I don't know why but there just doesn't seem to be much at all these days. Perhaps because a lot of people haven't met other people on the forum?
That brings me onto the next point. The Newbie meets.
For some people it can be rather intimidating going to your first meet/show and not knowing anyone there, it would be good if we could get more of these up and running around the country, and ideally with a couple of the regulars attending.
We have a regular meet in Herts which seems to be going well, though given the usual topics for discussion, we probably scare off more people than we attact.

Maybe DSUK members should try and go to other meets as well? There's always Honda/jap meets going on, Ace Cafe...is that still going? And there are meets in Brighton

Okay - this is from a Newbie point of view...

Yes - I think the money to become a new member is fair - but I think (like me) people will only want to part with their money once they see they are getting value from the forum. Going to meets and getting to know you all is one huge benefit and the meet last night has persauded me to part with my cash... But for others who are new (and not so forward) it can be really scary to meet new people - esp as the media tend to portray people that meet others via the internet as axe murderers. So maybe - as an idea - maybe the mods should look afetr a little bit of the country each and organises local meets? The Herts meet was awesome last night and should be replicated round the country.

Maybe if there is a mod for each bit of the country doing a local meet regulary (not nec. monthly - but a few times a year between shows) they could keep an eye open for new members who are from that part of the country and then send them PM's about the meet as well as posting it to a meets section. I think on the whole people tend to think " thats a really good idea - but surely they won't want me there - i don't know them - I wouldn't fit in..." but if they were to get a pm with a more personal invite - "Hi - we've noticed you're new around here - and we would really like the oppotunity to meet you and your car.. The next meet in your area is....blah blah blah..." etc. they may feel better (and more wanted) and actually go. I have also found that bribing people with chocolate cake works quite well as well...

Also - if your new to the whole show car scene thing - the prospect of putting your car on display is truly terrifying!! There's also the thought that you won't know enough about your car to answer people's questions... so paying upfront to put a car on a stand as a first meet and greet may not be the best way to go.

Local free meets should be encouraged more - perhaps with more of a down play on the role of the cars in the meet - yes we want to see your car - but even if its still a work a process we would love to meet you - the human being behind the car! My first meet was at South Mimms (where I met Luke) - which was a cool no-pressure environment. Amy knows a lot of people at the Ace cafe - so I will see where they are going with Jap meets - maybe we could even get a Honda eve sorted for some point?

The more people we can get to local free meets the more chnace we have of people feeling comfortable enough to pay their money and take up a stand space at the larger shows...

Anyway - that's just a newbie's opinion. I like the site - and am looking forward to the changes. BUT please don't make it too OTT. At the moment I can sneak on at work (like now) - but if it were to become loder in colouring I may not get away with it!

Good luck.. and now I'm off to figure out who to pay my money too....

That's great feedback Kat so thank you. We've talked about regional meets before but we need people to set them up so we're looking for volunteers.

On another note, you may all notice things moving around a bit on the forum, changes to ranks etc. This is because we're having a bit of a tidy up behind the scenes before we make more major changes so please bear with us. :D

yup, there will be new ranks assigned, and some more personalization features for everyone to use. i will be setting aside a day (when im not at work or in the workshop!) to do a bit more tech stuff.

BUT..... in the meantime, if there are people out there with some good phpbb experience please let me know either via pm or email. we have a use for you

Thanks for all the feedback so far, please remember the more and wider variety of people that contribute the better we hope to make this place for you all.

I know the big thing ever since we changed over to phpbb v3 from v2 was the garage app. Well I do have some news on that and I hope to try and have a version up and running (once i organise a test server to play with)

The reason that the garage wasnt carried over is that the application wasnt compatible with version 3, obviously a couple of years have passed now, and people have been busy with mods and updates on the app so I hope to test that soon.

I will also hopefully be making an announcement regarding mods/admins etc etc on Monday so you will all see a few more changes

So a little of good news for you all :D

Dunno if this sounds like a daft idea, but do the moderators/admin etc have business cards for the site?! Would be good to keep a supply in the car, especially if going to a meet...

Not a daft idea at all dude - I'm working on getting some flyers designed and made (and maybe smaller business card-like sizes as you suggest too) - not just for the mods and admins but all members, hoping to give a bunch out free to promote the club :)

p.s lots of really informative and useful info so far guys, thank you :) Keep it coming! :D
