New Highland user - esi del sol

Postby indykid » Mon May 13, 2013 6:12 pm

Hey guys, been a keen VW and Honda enthusiast most my life and have owned all sorts, from a mk3 GTI, 2x Polo GT's, Polo G40 and a EG Civic ESI - loved that car but it was rotten!

I have been a student the last three years so I haven't owned a car during that time, it was just an additional expense that I couldn't afford and believe it or not the Del Sol has been one of the cheapest cars I can find to insure!

I had been after this specific one that is local to me for years, It has been sitting at a mates garage since it needed a backbox and brakes for its MOT but he had just had a baby and it got left for a while until he decided what he wanted to do with it... FOUR YEARS LATER, I have convinced him to sell it to me.

It's red and the paintwork has seen better days, someone has thrown a brick at the windscreen and ruined the bonnet and the windscreen surround.
there seems to be water getting into the cockpit but I don't know if its due to the windscreen or not, I will look into the FAQ's and investigate all known bad spots..

new brakes are on, waiting to see what backboxes come up wanting something sporty but not too loud, maybe a 2inch rolled out pipe?

Is there any other SCOTTISH Del Sol owners able to help me source parts? cheers

also need a heater control, I kinda broke it

Which water leak do you have? Boot? Passenger footwell? Roof seals? or something else?

Guess you'll need to get it fixed pronto as you have a lot of rain up there. ;)

Oh and welcome! :D

Can anyone confirm the pcd is 4x100? I was looking at getting ITR DC2 wheels but I will have to do a lot of messing about for that I think

Delsols are 4x100
Can put dc2 wheels on with out changing the hubs to either 4x108 or 5x100 depending on what wheels you are looking at

But I think it's sprint wheels that make the dc2 reps in 4x100 do might be just as easy to look there dude

Tegiwa Imports used to be the UK importer for sprint wheels but im pretty sure they have stopped doing them. Sprint wheels UK Website (www.sprintwheels.co.uk) seems to be down as well which is a little odd.

Had quite a succesful night, I heard a rumour about another del sol that is sat at a garage not for from where I live and it's rumoured that it is a b16...
went for a nosey and behold in front of me was a red del sol with a b16, gathers grilles, electric roof, map lights, amongst other bits and pieces.

Found out who owned it and the lady was really helpful and is willing to give me bits and pieces providing i tow it back to her house for her.
It is an automatic, is that simple enough to straight bar? just dump the car into N?

She has offered me the rear number plate tub (square)
the colour coded mirrors (heated iirc/ do they exist? )
third brake light ( do i need wiring for that or is there a connection near there for it to plug into?
the map light handles ( again do they need a wiring harness?
and the gathers speaker grilles although they are hanging...

and a few other bits and pieces all for a swap basis for the standard parts I have.

So I just need to know if these are parts that I need to take all the wiring with me/ will they fit into an esi loom?

The engine has had a few bits robbed off unfortunately

about time i uploaded some pictures
a few of the before and a few during, it got dark before i knew it so no finished pics yet
the rear arch was bubbling, and i felt the rust so i was heavy handed with it on purpose to see how far back it would go, I reckon that is repairable, need to try and find an arch from somewhere ir anyone can suggest somewhere?

cheers
