p229 kkl. big update

Postby solrider1985 » Sun Mar 17, 2013 5:42 pm

hello dsuk.

im 27 from bath and have recently purchased a del sol. ive had 2 in the past before. so no them relativly well. my first del sol was a 1993 sir in captiva blue. didnt no anything about vtec back then lol. but i quickly found out when i put a air filter on it. i then had another sir but with a gastly bodykit on it and as a result of poor paintwork e.t.c only had it for around 2 months.

anyway i needed to get a del sol back in my life and my plan was to give it a total colour change respray. i had a budget of around £900 and only wanted a sohc non vtec or sohc vtec. im not going for speed here as i never drive fast anywhere anyway.

i purchased this del sol d16y8 on a p reg (uk car) 2 weeks ago my boss drove me to east essex to look at it. and although it needed some bodywork the interior was tidy and it drove well. i no a couple of people who are good mates of mine. 1 is a panel beater and 1 is a car painter so its not going to cost me as much as a bodyshop would to do the work. but i also get invloved myself which is the most important thing. im not really into giving my car to some one and not putting any effort in myself. id rather have a hand in transforming it. EXCEPT when it comes to the tt roof. id rather let someone with real knowledge look at it :).

anyway about the car.

1996
1.6 sohc d16y8
120k
service history
standard with only an aftermarket stereo and uprated door speakers
tt roof works......just
1 rear inner arch has gone
and a bit on the outer arch
door needs replacing as rotten

bodywork is not the best. laquer peel e.t.c but its being resprasyed any way so no major worries

i will be lowering it with some rims e.t.c and going for a pale blue colour with the front foglight holes removed and smoothed
and aerial removed and smoothed.

started stripping the car to go to a freind to have the welding done in a few eeeks so just a few pics for now will update when more work is done :)

bit of an update, been busy grinding rusty bolts of and buying new e.t.c. but the main development is the welding is now done its had 1 skim of filler just for the time being the rest of the filler work will be done when the car is prepared ready for the respray. ive taken the front bumper of to have the fog light holes smoothed over and the other bit for the number plate smoothed over as well. the bumper is at work ready to start smoothing this coming weekend also going to modify the black part of the grill slightly. will post pics up when done. got another door which isnt rotten at the bottom, and had the rear arch lip ground away a bit at the back for some room for wider wheels, (arch was all sealed up afterwards). smoothing the aerial hole required no welding as when you weld a hole up of that size the panel can warp e.t.c so the solution is to glue a piece from behind with proper panel glue which they use on new cars nowadays. that way there is alot less filler work to do as there are no warped panles. and the same has been done to the spoiler holes. and the same will be done to the fog light hole. anyway here are some pics:

ok slight update. the car is where i work and has been for a few weeks. me and 2 freinds are working on it weekends. i mate is a panel beater by trade, and the other is a painter/preper by trade. so mix the 2 together and you have good results :). i have new crystal black headlights to go in and numer plate relocator and flat side repeaters. so apart from rear lights thats all the bits i need to finish of the exterior. the screen is now out and the car needs a bit more filler work and then its ready to be primed and then painted next weekend. i will get pics up of the parts i have bought soon. but for no here is the car's progress. i will get pics up of every panel this weekend before primer :). the colour of the car is shown in the last pic in the paint tin :). honda pyrenees blue
