have it off mate. its a few bolts. It'd be worth IMO taking it off, sanding it down and spraying it. keeping the letteres greased so pain doesnt stick then you got a rocker cover in the colour you want with what ever colour letttering was on it before.

Here are some pictures of the newly arrived Mini Cooper Supercharger (Eaton M45)

As you can see from this first picture the pipe on the top of the chargers outlet port is a custom fabricated port, and I was lucky enough to have this come with it. This will save a bit of work but not much ha ha.

Know I have to think about either putting it where the a/c is but then i would have to modify the manifold. So i've recently had an idea to take of the a/c anyway and then replace that with the p/s and then i could mount the sc above the manifold :).

Thanks for the number man. How many sols you breaking then? Um first thing that's springs to mind would be the dreaded weather strips (as Honda call them) the rubber seals all around the roof and doors lol

Ah sweet well there's no rush for um thoguh dude. Um I don't know if it makes a difference (I didn't look myself) but I have a TT roof now instead of manual top. I will try and compose a list of OEM parts I will need though and let you know. Cheers :)

Postby Da(15)z » Thu Jul 07, 2011 11:40 am

Ok so all i've done to the car in the last few weeks is sand fiberglass and body fill the bonnet vent and one front wing. Haven't been able to do much else as the weather has been bad and i now have a new born baby boy who is now 2 weeks old.

What i have done is some Supercharger mathematics in order to prepare myself and get some rough figures. I have taken these calculations from various websites and hope that anyone looking to supercharge in the future could benefit from this. Also this is a great place to store my workings out just incase i lose my paper work :).

These calculations will be able to help me determine what s/c pulley size i will need, and to see that it will give me the correct drive ratio to run the s/c at the optimum rpm speed to avoid generating to much heat rather than HP. It's not a case of changing the s/c pulley to make more psi because as i said above it could potentially take the charger over the optimum rpm and raise outlet temperatures. So if you did want to make more psi than what i have worked out below then you will have to upgrade the charger to possibly the M62 (not possible for me unless I upgrade engine internals and i don't think i have the space for it in the engine bay :)).

S/C - Supercharger
NA - Natural Airflow

Del Sol Specs
- Engine size - 1493 cc
- Engine Cubic Inches - 91.1
- Red line RPM - 7000

With the information we already have about the car we can work out how much it is essentially 'breathing'.
NA CFM = RPM x Engine CI / 3456
7000 x 91.1 / 3456 = 184 cfm
OR the calculation below can be used
NA CFM = (1/2 Engine Displacement x RPM) x LPM
1493 / 2 = 746 cc
746 x 7000 x 0.3531 = 184 cfm

Eaton M45 Specs
- Displaces 45 cubic inches a minute or 750 cc or 0.75 ltrs
- Optimum max rpm range (my theory based on MAPS) 10,000 to 11,000

Normally at this point you would already know the crank pulley size and the s/c pulley size in order to work out the Drive Ratio. The calculation would be :
Drive Ratio = Crank Pulley Size / S/C Pulley Size

Once I have removed my Air Con system I will be able to measure my crank pulley size and find out what s/c pulley i will need by using this calculation:
S/C Pulley Size = Crank Pulley Size x Drive Ratio

These calculations tell us how much the charger is blowing into the engine. I have guessed the Drive Ratio to calculate the max s/c rpm for 10,000 and 11,000 rpm.
Max S/C RPM = Red Line RPM x Drive Ratio
S/C @ 11k : 7000 x 1.57 = 10990 rpm
S/C @ 10k : 7000 x 1.43 = 10010 rpm

S/C Max LPM = S/C Displacement ltrs x Max rpm
S/C @ 11k : 0.75 x 10990 = 8242.5 lpm
S/C @ 10k : 0.75 x 10010 = 7507.5 lpm

Convert LPM to CFM = LPM x 0.3531
S/C @ 11k : 8242.5 x 0.3531 = 291 cfm
S/C @ 10k : 7507.5 x 0.3531 = 265 cfm

The charger must supply the engine with its NA as well as the 'boosted' air supply.
"Boosted" Excess CFM = S/C CFM - NA CFM
S/C @ 11k : 291 - 184 = 107 cfm
S/C @ 10k : 265 - 184 = 81 cfm

Boost PSI = Excess CFM / NA CFM x Atmospheric Pressure (14.7)
S/C @ 11k : 107 / 184 x 14.7 = 8.5 psi
S/C @ 10k : 81 / 184 x 14.7 = 6.5 psi
(These answers do not take into account for loss of psi through intercooler, length of system, etc)

Does anyone want to come and prep my car I'm getting bored now of all the body fiilling and sanding. I'll pay you well ;). :( hmm maybe it's time to get it mot'd soon and take it to a garage to finish the prep work. Unless anyone has any helpful tips on how to blend the filler with the contours of the body work???

I love the fact the whole car is custom I just hate the work that comes with it :( lol.

Was off work for a while and still playing the old catch up on bills game now. shall see how i get on now in the next few months and decided wether or not to carry on with this project. Thanks for your interest :).

Postby Da(15)z » Thu Jan 09, 2014 10:08 pm

So since my last post ive been a bit busy with the car to make it a bit more presentable and road worthy.

Left it at a mechanics at the begining of 2013 to sort out the list of things to do from the mot failure sheet. Had a full service too :) keep my engine happy, maybe a new water pump and timing belt another day though haha.
Once that was all done my friend an I started on the body work. Blending the arches and side skirts an priming the whole car.

Image

Had some 3D symbols made up and put onto the car
Image Image Image Image Image

Sprayed rear panel hamerite black
Image Image

Sprayed door sills and under bonnet.
Image Image

Stripped the air con system out
Image Image

Tried the supercharger in the space where the air con rad was, looks like this could work :) will start the bracket designs soon. Watch this space! Quite literally lol.
Image

Image Image

Took all the lights of the car to tint and install led rings. For my 1st attempt i put my indicators in the oven whch worked well but a Bosch heat gun was much better and alot quicker.
Image Image Image

The light on the left was after cleaning with spirits.
Image

The lights on the left are spray tinted.
Image

So another mot later and it failed again! This time on a front bush and emissions again! But not as bad as the 1st time around this time only on one part of the emissions so the full service must of help. This time around I changed the o2 sensor, put petrol additives in and done a full ecu reset. Thought i would of needed a new cat (even though it gets tested without one, strange that init lol). Luckily John a member on here who lives locally to me droped by with a standard cat in the end the garage never put it on but it still passed :) !!

All tax mot and insured as of jan 1st 2014, yay :)
Image Image
Still a bit of priming to do on the rear bumper and touch ups but were getting there.

Water leak problem, roof handle on one side has stuck open! And water leaks through the sill on the otherside! This is the result. Water on the inside of the windscreen and condensation on the roof.
Image Image

Ive used an old sock full of rice and it seems to have done the trick. Also as i`m using the car constantly once again and taking the roof off it seems to have dried out :). Still the problem with the boot leaking but i will get round to that soon.

Looks like youve put alot of work into it and i respect that but you need to get some wide wheels on it now with 0 offset to get the wide racing stance look that your going for.
