haha I like it! Tempting but pretty expensive! I'll see what my red interior looks like with latest look and decide then. The problem is I'd need to redo part of my custom dash which is red in some places too... :?

Latest update: she has her heart back! :D

The bad news: I scratched my lovely new engine bay paintwork even with blankets everywhere :( :( :oops: I should have removed the alternator in hindsight as that is what hit the passenger frame rail due to how tight this engine is to that side of the bay. So that put me in a proper mood for days (sorry Lindi) :evil:

Image

I’ll take her back to the bodyshop to get resolved when she is driveable but in the meantime I’m not sure if I can put stickers over them or something to help hide them? Any suggestions?! :oops:

Flip flops :shock: Elf and safety man would have had a field day with your naked friend!

Thats a bugger on the bay knocks but its really easily done, was there no room to go in from underneath? Only suggestion I have is nail varnish which might be totally the wrong thing to do but you could probably get a fairly good colour match for now. Good progress, keep it going!

I don't know what's worse scratching that beautiful engine bay or Solman owning up to having purple nail varnish.

So more updates to catch up on...

So I continued plumbing her in, connecting up all the connectors (I’m glad I did the engine harness out the car as everything hooked up very easily), connected all the vac hoses, made up a fuel supply line to the filter under the manifold and secured the manifold, radiator, oil cooler, coolant hoses, gearbox earth, wiring and temporary intake tube;

I’m expecting my smoothed valve cover to be ready from the bodyshop next weekend, which will replace the unsightly red one I have on there currently.
I have also decided that I can’t really get away with driving 200miles to Gloucester for its tuning and MOT (without any roadtax etc) so I’m getting some quotes to flatbed her there. That also means I can get Rich @ Performance Autoworks to fully check everything over, sort out any leaks for me (brakes, fuel etc) and make sure everything is in order after 2yrs of being out the car prior to full tuning with the new manifold, TB etc. I’ll obviously prime her and check for leaks myself beforehand so there shouldn’t be anything serious for them to sort (hopefully!).

I also finally picked up the painted brake booster from the bodyshop and promptly fitted in place, allowing me to finish the brakes!

Having already ordered braided hoses from HEL to go from the MC to the firewall I mounted these on the MC and to the firewall (I selected these to have bulkhead connectors already attached to the hose so I didn’t need to buy extra fittings – bonus). Fittings into the MC were a bit odd being a 1” from an MB6, one was an M10x1mm and the other an M12x1mm.

Image

I then routed the lines from the above bulkheads on the interior side to the appropriate ports on the prop valve (making sure they went in the correct holes!), completing all the brake line runs!

Driveshafts and hubs, knuckle, upper arms, coilovers etc. and brakes are now all reinstalled and torqued up. Rear Skunk2 camber arms fitted too to help fine tune that in later.

Front bumper also refitted and headlights in;

Need to think of a good location for the number plate now…

Also for the oil cap, I needed to shave it down a tad to totally clear the underside of the bonnet so I got that done at work and made a little tool (modified angle grinder tool) to undo the cap now that it has no finger grips. It works really well!

OK so time for another update! You may have seen a couple of images on the DSUK Facebook page but here’s a bit more info and pics 8)

Without going into detail, I finished hooking up the engine ancillaries, filled up with fluids etc etc and had her towed to Performance Autoworks to look over and tune her up!

Well they came across a few issues :shock: :? – two of the brake line flares were weeping a bit so they redid those, and my fuel pressure regulator decided to crap out so they managed to fix that too as well as making a different bracket for my throttle cable because they didn't like how much the cable was being bent by my method - fair enough! I didn’t have time to fit my Integra rear calipers so gave them to PAW to do, which they duly did and then took her for tuning and MOT.

Well, they tuned the car on the hottest day of the year (they said it was 50deg inside the cabin during tuning!!) and the tyres were apparently struggling for grip on the dyno (due to the brand new tyres and heat – not because the rolling road couldn’t handle the power haha, I wish). But after tuning, she made a tad under 275bhp but still the same level of torque (180lbft). I was really hoping for 280-290 but as explained by Rich @ PAW a larger throttle body and inlet manifold alone won’t increase numbers that much, and the main fact is that the engine is very healthy and the graph is really smooth with nice power and torque curves. So I’m very happy with that and she still scares me a bit on the roads having been used to driving the Jazz for so long :lol:

So, drove her back and stopped into my Mum’s place to break the journey up a little and check for leaks/peace of mind etc. but all was good. A few photo’s of her in all her glory;

Bear in mind I still need to finish installing all the roof seals properly, windscreen trim and the entire interior apart from dash! So no where near complete just yet.

Apparently I can go lower by about 10mm without upsetting the ‘fast road’ alignment setup they carried out but I scrape a little going up my own driveway so don’t think I’ll be lowering her anymore…
