Forgot to add this pic from the 'ring trip in september

Image

Still need to get this sprayed up, also looking at finishing off a few more bits n bobs in the bay then back to the rollers to see what else they can squeeze out of it, haven't had anytime playing with it so probably won't be till after winter now :(

Hey guys (and girls!) still got the mini just haven't drove it since the rolling road in september, been busy etc usual stuff

After the rear silencer fell off at the rollers it looks like the hangers were on its way out so was only a matter of time, up until that time the car did not really feel quick, when the rear silencer dropped it actually broke the flexi section upfront as it was puffing out gasses when you cup it. I hadn't even started the car up since I last drove it and battery volts were low so quick charge and it started first turn with 4 month old fuel :)

Image

I needed to sort the front flexi out so decided in the end just to get rid of it and use an offcut pipe I had to just make it straight, the cut in the flexi was done after

Image

Another thing at the rollers was the CV boot gaitors, I had a pin hole and it was leaking so needed sorting, popped them off and out

Image

I did both shafts in the end (preventative maintenance) usual thing with the tigerseal and steel band clamps

Finally got the exhaust finished and put the car back together today and took it out for a test drive - oh sheeeeet! its picks up now!

Had torque steer in second when I hit vtec and it pulled the car a bit, thats the first time its snatched like that so will keep an eye on it, another time I was doing a nice 70 on the motorway and went to overtake and few seconds later I was pretty much off the clock! Looks like the exhaust leaks were sapping alot of power before as it proper goes now, got back home and my hands were still shaking

Image

It was nice to drive again but a bit scary aswell

Just a small update, went to change a front wheel and the wheel nut was spinning with the stud :( so had to angle grind the nut off, the stud spline was goosed so need to change the disc flange

Image

Decided this would be a good time to get some vented discs with the appropriate flanges, also got a caliper spacing kit for my 4 pots and some mintex pads

Image

I was using carbon metallic pads before with solid discs so will see how good these mintex are with vented discs, these are not the 1144's though

Also looking to change the wheels but we'll see :D wanna get this fitted first

Brakes are all done, just need to test them now

Image

Image

Hopefully I can test them out in the next couple of days

My other Honda was feeling a bit left out so decided to cheer it up with a blast out and some quality time with its brother-in-law

Its a Honda thing :D

Been out last couple of days testing the car and the new brakes, all is very well, few little things to sort out but other than that 8)

Did a short vid, poor camera mount and very shaky car...

Image

Also picked up some new wheels/tyres

Image

Image

Yes they are the legendary 145's on rovers finest steel wheels

Sounds just like my sol lol. Are you able to put a traction bar on and do you have an LSD?
Like the vids :) Just need to hold it another one hundred more revs to keep in vtec when changing :)

Sorry Chris for the slightly insanely late reply! :o

Lost my log in details and been busy and kinda forgot I had an account here as I haven't really done anymore on the mini

No room for a traction bar, unfortunately the underside is just as packed up tight as up top, and no LSD - thats how I roll sister

The vtec in/out on changing gear is just the way I drive, makes it more vocal depending on who's around  also my final drive is still the 3.4 I had with the b16 so its incredibly long but not as quick as hitting the redline as my old b16 was even though I'm still using the same lightweight flywheel, I know the b20 crank is heavier so maybe I need a 3.7 final but the 3.4 suits motorway mileage, we'll see

Sorry for the late update but to be honest nothing had been happening with the car over the last few months due to some personal circumstances and me moving, got a bigger garage now even though I didn't have a sardine tin before but every little extra room helps as Tesco say when they are not making up numbers

Image

Getting married (very!) soon and after we finally moved in she tells me she wants the mini there as the wedding car...this was an issue with me as I had plans to keep it tucked away for another 6 months then start on it, so with only six weeks to go till the day it was a bit of a tall order as the time that I didn't have was closing in but thought I'd give it a crack!

So six weeks to go I unwrap the other mistress in my life and had a good look, had the dreaded leak from what I thought was the vtec solenoid but obviously it was the usual suspect so got some new gubbins

Image

Image

Image

Image

But then typical snapped the 'usual' bolt so another ordered, 10mm cam cap cover bolt, luckily the other half was still protruding so mole grips on and out and disaster averted!

Image

Four weeks to go and needed a MOT so after booking it in I replaced the windscreen due to a crack

Image

Then after no driving for 18 months...

Pass! green light for some more mayhem

Three weeks to go and I need to get the front end resprayed, she was happy with the rattle can front end :( but I wasn't as it was embarrassing to say the least  phoned round quite a few places but they all said about two weeks...no good, finally managed to find someone as he wanted to get his mitts into a b20 mini and didn't mind squeezing it in around his already hectic schedule 8) massive thanks fella

Picked it up last week

Image

Image

Two weeks to go, no time to work on car!

One week to go and get a few other niggly things done and managed to squeeze in a meet with some other minis

Image

Image

Three days to go and finished off a couple of small jobs so now am just waiting for my wedding ribbons to come through which is less stressful

I've been running Yoko 165/60/12 tyres since the start of the b20 on here but they just wasn't sleeper enough for me as the sidewalls sit flat so wanted to get the original size 145/70/12's on as they have a more rounded sidewall - its all about looks people!

But if the sleet starts then straight back to the Yokos! :P

Here's the Yoko 165's

Image

And the Falken 145's

Image

Tyres tuck nicely in the arches, more rounded sidewall all round and just a general feeling of some impending demoralising due out on the road

Still need to put the correct tyre pressures in and get the suspension alignment done again sometime as it was done on the 165's but as these have a now 70 profile ratio as opposed the 60 before you get a slight rub on my inner wheel arch at full lock, nothing major just annoying so I know as soon as I crank up the hi los up a tad the other settings will be out, will leave that to another time though, I can handle a small annoying factor in the meantime

Just chucking in some pics, you've probably seen them before but its getting near its sleeper status now

Image

ECU port accessible from dummy radio fascia

Image

Have to warn garages - DON'T lift and there is a fifth

All looking good and on track so far 8)

Nice to hear from you Kam, its immense this car, keeping all that power in check must be a bit of battle especially on a wet slippy day.

Still love it though and I bet you can have some fun off the lights against pretty much anything. Must let me know when you are down this neck of the woods (probably at castle combe) and I'll come take a look at this beast!

 cheers guys

Don - I did get a power run done a while back but it was only its first tune and nothing really was worked on just a basic run map and it runs on 95 fuel, it hit 200hp 148tq

Basically I have bad luck at the rollers so was glad to be able to just get a map I can use for now, tuner did say at the time the engine has a lot of depth so use super but I like the fact I can roll into any petrol station and fill up (still got a mini tank!) and not worry if they have super on tap etc

Also the buddyclub spec III cams I picked up from solman were literally just thrown in by me (and I mean literally!) they are not dialled in :o and the cam gears still need tweaking on, when I get round to finally going for the final map I'll probably use super, dial the cams in and let them go to work on the cam gears and go for it, but in all honesty it has enough to hoon about in - so when the honeymoon period is over (car not wife) and I want a bit more I'll get it done then :D

Cheers John, I need to read up on the build diaries here to refresh myself, god knows whats been going on, at quick glance I see solman is still at it - again
