Rite! thought it was about time i finished of this spoiler and get it ready for JAE! so here we go!

This isnt a very common modification this side of the pond, but is quite popular over in the states... a roof spoiler! Its abit of a marmite modification, some people will love it and some of you will hate it!

So i originally started to make one of these with a standard Civic eg spoiler, but soon realised i would miss having the third upper break light. So i shopped around and managed to pick up a eg JDM (eg6) spoiler after a long wait, these things are like rocking horse shite to find! These are quite alot bigger then a standard eg spoiler but but the big difference is that it has the led break light included in it.

Image

To start of i dismantled the plastic part of the spoiler from the metal base and removed the LED light. The metal base is not needed so this was binned. I picked up another third break light surround from skitz, as i wanted to save my oridginal incase i decided to go back to standard.

Image

To start of, the eg spoiler needs to be cut into three as in isnt wide enough to fit the delsol body. The spoiler needs to be extended by roughly one inch either side. I mounted the three parts to the third break light surround temporally with metal breakets so i could bend them the get the spoiler into the shape i wanted. I wanted the spoiler to have a slight flick up like a duckbill, but nothing to extreme.

I also cut about 2cm from the back of the spoiler to make it not as deep so It didn't stick out as far.

Once i decided on the angle i wanted, it was time to fiberglass the two parts together, and fibreglass the inch gaps in the spoiler together.

Next step was was body filler and ALOT of sanding until i was happy with the shape. I also added bolts into the original break light surround of the delsol which will bolt the spoiler to the car instead of the original screws as these would not hold the weight of the new spoiler. I also applied body filler over the break like cover for a smooth look.

Because the edges are made for an eg, not a delsol, i had to add more fibreglass to get the edges to sit flush with the Sols bodywork.

Next step was primer and another test fit to the car.

Next was paint. I was in three minds what to do, spray it white to match the wrap, spray it black, or to skin it with real carbon to match the bonnet. I decided on white for the time been but may carbon skin it at a later time.

This is where i am as of tonight. Next step will be to get it fitted to the car and wire up the break light!

So the spray job hasn't come out half as good as I wanted it to so I'm going to attempt to wrap it instead. The shape of it though might be near impossible to do!
