D15b 1.5 VXi auto back box

Postby gwhoo4t » Sun Oct 11, 2015 2:19 pm

Can anyone confirm if the HA162K back box from a '94 Civic will fit my Sol?

They look like they're common across the range for SOHC's of the era, but as I'm struggling to find mine listed, I was hoping someone on here might know?

This is the one I'm looking at:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-Civic-1 ... 5d4ecea9e7

Looks like the Cat's are different lengths between JDM (mine) and UKDM, so it's perhaps not as straightforward as I'd first thought.

Hi gaz

I was looking at different back boxes yesterday and thought the same as you they look the same as the civic hatchback ones, the mid pipe looks different.
Im sure someone will let us know for sure soon!

I know the cat's are different lengths between JDM and UK

I'm pretty sure civic exhausts are not a straight swap onto the delsol

Well it's not good news so far as the three 'high street' exhaust places have said they can't help, with the exception of Ebley who were non committal and said they'd need to see it first.

Hmmm.....

Yeah tried ECP - they supply ATS. D16 makes yours UKDM doesn't it? (Hence ECP having it listed).

Mine's a D15B7 - JDM, which appears to be the issue.

I guess this is why some people go down the power flow route and have 'em fabricated.

More homework to do

Well I'll be, I've just found a specialist exhaust repair centre in Bexhill - about 8 miles away. Booked in for them to evaluate 2pm tomorrow to see if it's repairable.

Fingers crossed.

Just a thought, but given the similar displacement and power output of the D16, I could presumably get a D16 backbox and have it adjusted in length to fit?

Does anyone know if the exhaust flow and back pressure is significantly different between the D15 and D16?

Well things are looking up :D

Bexhill Exhaust and Service Centre are ordering four bits from two different suppliers, will then offer them up to see which two fit best, and then shorten or lengthen them as needed. He's done exhausts on imported Sol's before.

I'm now looking forward to next week and getting it sorted. Noise is gradually getting worse :( and the performance feels quite affected :( :(

I'll update next week.

I thought it was only the cat that was different between jap and uk cars! you can get a uk cat and fit a uk cat back system!

I expect you're right and it's quite likely that with the cat as well a UK system should fit. At the end of the day though I'm getting a mid section and back box that'll be made to fit which is what I need to get ship-shape again. Hopefully.

I had complete exhaust system made in stainless steel in 2012 by isc-racing nr Ipswich. My Sol is a 92 so did not need cat. Only took 4 hours and they charged me £380. Exhaust will last longer than the car.

I have a civic back box on my sol at the moment, all you need is one longer hanger rubber ( cheap on eBay) or it sits on the bumper and a little to the left but change the hanger on the left and it's perfect! Hope this helps people.
