I must thank Geo for allowing me to use some of his info off the Team Del Sol Washington Website:

I'm a newbie to all this "drainage" but wouldn't it be easier to hose the bumper of your car and wait to see if you get any leeks inside before you go to the effort of removing the bumper? :?

(And couldn't you be a lazy sod and just seal around the inside?)

You can, but I guess it doesn't really deal with the problem fully! All that water could be sitting on the metal just inside the surrounding area of the vent, so in the long run you might get a rust problem. The water doesn't really come in from the bumper, it runs down the back of the tailgate next to the lights I believe.

When I did this fix I didn't take the bumper off (I dare not touch it the way things are going right now), I sealed around the vents from inside. It's not the correct way to do it, but right now I'm just happy that the boot is dry (shame about the rest of the car) :(
Hey, I can do better than that for you, Have a Rank !!!

The page may have moved as it's quite old. Try this one instead. The boot leak is usually caused by the rear drains being blocked and water leaking into the boot through the sail panel clips. Clear the rear drains and you sort the problem.
