fit a fog light in the revese light

Postby Curtis » Tue Sep 06, 2005 5:29 pm

ok first you need to locate the fog light wiring

Image

then take out the bulb from the drivers side reverse light.

Image

snip the wires (leaving some length) attatched to the bulb holder

then snip off the plug on the end of the fog light wiring.

now i crimped on some sockets onto the wires (all 4) then got 2 new lengths of wire and attatched a male connector to either end of each of these wires.

you could also solder these joints which would be better but i couldnt find my soldering iron.

Now just join up the positive to positive and negative to negative, fit your red bulb (i fitted a clear led one which flashes red) and away you go.

Remember to tape up the ends of the reverse light wiring.

mine aint the tidyest job but i had to do it in a nuch rusho.

should only take half an hour maximum

as yours is an import it could be anywhere, do you have any random switchs in the car?

you dont need the switch wiring gor this just the wiring at the boot end

Nice one !! I too have fitted the LED lamp that way there is no problem showing any white light on the rear of the car. Its brighter and better than an ordinary bulb

Am I right to assume that doing it this way means that you would have only one white reverse light, and one red (LED) fog light?

*Newbie Alert*

- Would all imports (that would need this doing) have wiring already in place? I've been drinking and can't make sense of monkey pile!

Re: fit a fog light in the revese light

I did this some time ago to my VGi but tried a red bulb instead of the LED 'bulb' you have used. The red bulb didn't work well as the light appeared as a pinkish colour. I then used red lens repair tape to cover the white lens of the old reversing light and this worked ok and looked good. However over time the colour of the tape fades and needs replacing.

The red LED bulb looks like a better way to go - where did do get it?

plus the fact the rear fog is spos to be brighter than the other rear lights..using a regular bulb covered in tape is pretty pointless imo
