ECU/ABS codes for everyone...

Postby Nick » Wed Jun 23, 2004 7:28 pm

Hey guys, thought this may be handy...

How to read ECU codes?

Find the diagnostic connector, which is a two wire blue connector found near the passengers feet, or in the centre console (Each car may differ. Image below is for Civic Si). Short out the diagnostic connector with a piece of wire, e.g. a paper clip bent to a U-shape, or hair pin. To read the codes, turn the ignition on.

(On my sol there are two connectors in a green rubber holder, just above the ECU. It is the smaller connector of the two...)

The check engine light on the dash will flash the problem codes. If there are more than 1 problem, a different code will subsequently follow the first after a brief pause.

There are two types of flashes - short and long, which are combined to represent number codes. Each short flash indicates 1 unit and each long flash represents 10 units. Problem codes 1 - 9 are indicated by 1 - 9 flashes, problem codes 10 - 90 use 1 - 9 long flashes. If the code is more than 9, the long flashes will start first before the short ones. The codes will continue to repeat as long as your ignition is on.

Hi, on my way home yesterday, the check engine light shows, then I turnd engine off and back again and was everything ok... This morning Iwas trying to find error codes, but everything seems to be ok...
Is this normal, or it don`t remember problem?
Thank You...

I had a similar thing, if you try the trick above it should show the last error code so you can find out what it was.

When I had the issue the engine check light would come on after about 5-10 minutes of driving, and it gave a code 43 (Fuel supply system) but it turned out to be my O2 sensor.

Yeh I'd agree with that. I had the same issue a couple of years back and it was the o2

You got an sir? I wouldn't expect code 1 on an obd1 car as they only have one o2 sensor and then usually its code 41 or 43. Prob worth checking the wiring first of all
