DelSolUK on Facebook?

Postby Garyrae » Mon Jun 06, 2011 4:46 pm

Went to 'like' the site on Facebook / try track down a fb fan page for the site, but couldn't find one.. Any plans to set one up?

Could be useful for a bit of promotion & to keep people updated if the site goes down? Or is there one already that I've missed?

(Sorry if this is in the wrong forum btw, couldn't think where to put it)

Er, OK John, message recieved loud and clear. If I recall correctly Gary, the general feeling amongst the great and good of this forum (i.e. not me) was that having a Facebook page alongside the forum would risk spreading our membership too thinkly and could create two entities competing for the same audience.

Del Sol UK active membership has probably peaked, due to the age of the car and is in slow decline as Del Sols steadily revert to iron oxide. But that's part of the appeal for many - owning a car that is becoming increasingly rare. :)

There was soemthing set up by someone on YouTwitFace or somewhere similar, but I've never visited it!!

I agree... Having dsuk on facebook although modern and what not will probably take interest away from the site itself. Although this is only a theory ofcourse.. Feel free to share the positives :) I think it's easier and more efficient having all the planned meets and events for example here.. than have to remember to update FB with info too

I think it would be detrimental to this site and club. Ally Fish has put it very clear about the possible out comes. We all know we have to split regular members with other forums anyhows, so what good would having a sister site do, apart from seperate members even more.

The only negative way I think it'd affect the forum would be people posting cars/parts for sale on there, when they don't have full membership here.

A great way another car forum I use make use of it, is by 'live-updating' meets & events. Ie, recently they had a stand at FCS and posted pics throughout the day for those that couldn't be there.
There are benefits, and I haven't seen any discussion actually taken away from forums to Facebook pages before, because it's not really setup to have an in-depth discussion. It'll have no worse an effect than a chat room/shoutbox.

I suppose it's difficult to see if you don't use Facebook properly, and it sounds I'm spouting a load of trendy jargon, but I think you should give it a go. With the Honda scene exploding the way it is, and the cost of Del Sols being significantly lower to insure than Civics for younger drivers, I think that there's definitely life in the forum yet if you adapt to things quickly. :)

I see no harm in getting a wider audience and further spreading appreciation for the Sol.
However, I already did find a page for the CRX Del Sol on FB which has plenty of likes and interest.
So what more is needed unless a link to the club? :?:
